Erica...

Hi, my name is Erica and I have GAD, or generalised anxiety disorder. My journey with confronting my mental illness began over a year ago when I made the decision to start therapy.  Up until that point, I hadn’t been handling life very well. I was overly anxious about anything and family matters were next to impossible to deal with. It was actually my father who encouraged me to take the leap into getting help. I made every excuse in the book: it was too expensive, what if I didn’t find a good therapist, or my personal favourite what if she thought I was crazy? Yes, because that’s exactly what therapists think every time they see a new patient, right? Once all those excuses were worn out, I took the leap, which I’m still currently on. Guess what? It was by far the best decision I could ever have made for myself. I was already slightly self-aware going into therapy, but once I arrived, I grew more and more.

I started my blog, Anxiety Erica, to heal myself and others through the power of stories. Stories of how we all battle our own mental illnesses and the path it takes us on. Shortly after launching my blog, I experienced an emotional breakup. It was through writing down my feelings and story that I am still healing myself. There is nothing more rewarding than connecting with a community so filled with empathy, strength, and resilience. I have found my home in this community and through my blog, therapy, and the right tools, will continue to help others feel less alone in their mental illnesses.
